Why Are You Running For Office?
I am running for Sheriff because our county deserves steady leadership that restores trust and delivers measurable results. With more than two decades of law enforcement experience, I understand what it takes to build a professional, disciplined organization that performs at a high level. The Sheriff’s Office is facing serious staffing and cultural challenges that affect service to our residents. I will address those challenges by rebuilding morale, supporting employees, and establishing clear expectations across the agency. I am committed to earning public confidence, strengthening the workforce, and leading a Sheriff’s Office that our county can depend on.
What Is The Biggest Issue Facing Voters In This Race?
The most important issue facing the Sheriff’s Office is the staffing crisis, driven by declining morale and workplace culture. More than 30 deputy sheriffs and civilian employees have left since the incumbent sheriff assumed office. In September of 2025, 80 percent of Sheriff’s Office employees voted no confidence in the current office holder, and agency employees have overwhelmingly endorsed my campaign. I will address this crisis by investing in employees, strengthening leadership, and improving workplace culture. By creating an environment where employees feel valued, the office will retain experienced personnel and enhance recruitment, ensuring a stable, professional, and fully staffed Sheriff’s Office.
What Experience Best Prepares You For This Role?
I’m a longtime resident of Poolesville and bring 22 years of law enforcement experience. I rose to Chief Assistant Sheriff of Prince George’s County, the agency’s second in command, overseeing nearly 400 employees and operations. I also served as Bureau Chief of Administration, directing agency logistics and support. I hold a B.S. in Criminal Justice, magna cum laude, from UMGC and completed the Police Union Leadership Program at Harvard Law School. In my spare time, I’ve coached youth sports in the county, and my professional experience and community engagement prepare me to lead an effective, accountable Sheriff’s Office.
What Would You Like Voters To Know About You Personally?
I want voters to know that public service isn’t just what I’ve doneโit’s who I am. I was sworn in as a law enforcement officer on my 21st birthday, and I’ve dedicated my entire career to serving others.
I’ve led at the highest levels, ensuring law enforcement services are delivered effectively and efficiently, while always supporting and valuing the people who do the work every day. In my view, leadership means acknowledging and addressing challenges head-on, inspiring and developing employees to reach their full potential, and fostering a culture guided by accountability, respect, and professionalism.
I’m proud to be endorsed by the county’s public safety labor unionsโincluding UFCW Local 1994 โ MCGEO, FOP Lodge 35, FOP Lodge 30, and IAFF 1664โas well as trusted leaders like former County Executive Ike Leggett, former State’s Attorney and Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler, State Senator Nancy King, Major General (Ret.) Art Holmes Jr. and former U.S. Labor Secretary and County Council member Tom Perez.
I’m running for Sheriff because I care deeply about our county, and I am committed to restoring the Sheriff’s Office as an integral part of the county’s public safety infrastructure.
