Whether you’re a daredevil coaster-rider, funnel cake aficionado, or prefer to keep to the animal trails, the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair has something splendid to offer you this week. Now in its 75th season, the annual fair has been delighting MoCo residents since 1949. Its vast catalog of activities, events, and performances are not to be missed. Take a look at some of the highlights below and check out a short video from the fair parade on Sunday.
Theme Park Attractions
For those who enjoy the thrill of careening around tight corners or plummeting from great heights, the fair’s carnival rides are the pinnacle of theme-park fun. This year, the fair is offering the brand-new Jumbo Circus ride, while also including staples such as Alien Abduction and the Tilt-a-Whirl. The park offers a multitude of amusements for the most dauntless fairgoers, in addition to an equally-satisfying selection of gentler rides for those who prefer to remain grounded. All-day wristband options range from $35 to $40, while individual ride tickets can be purchased for as cheap as $2.
Animal Exhibits
For those who delight in all things adorable, peruse the livestock exhibits just beyond the carnival. The fair’s awe-inspiring display of animals includes horses, pigs, rabbits, chickens, and various others—many of whom may be competing in shows later in the week. You’ll be able to purchase feed for certain animals, adding an extra layer of fun to the experience.
Attendees can enjoy daily swine races at no cost, in addition to birds-of-prey viewings in the Raptor tent. Children and adults alike are sure to enjoy observing these fascinating animals all week long.
Fair Food
It can be said with confidence that you’ll never be hungry at the fair. Enjoy treats such as warm churros from Churros Inc., beaded ice cream from Dippin’ Dots, and smoothies from Pacha Mamma Juice. Those ravenous for something more substantial can choose from dozens of vendors including Don Julio’s Mexican cuisine and Demetri’s Greek Foods. Seating is available for those who would like to enjoy their food sitting down; otherwise, feel free to continue exploring the fairgrounds with your provisions in-hand.
Entertainment
A wide variety of free and ticketed entertainment is available at the fair. Enjoy Brad Matchett the Comedy Hypnotist, a family-friendly performer who invites volunteers from the audience to participate in his shows every day at 9:00 PM. Another free-of-charge option is Josh and Lea Knotts’ Extreme Illusions and Escapes. This spine-tingling performance entails a multitude of tricks, magic, and narrow escapes that is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.
For affordable ticket prices, you can attend monster truck displays and car demolition derbies at the Grandstand. These electrifying shows have astounded spectators for years and counting, and will be held on August 14 through August 17 starting at 7:30 PM.
Goodies
The fair offers an endless supply of prizes, goodies, and products available at both the carnival and at vendors’ booths. Win a goldfish or a giant stuffed animal at one of the fair’s many carnival games by throwing darts, tossing rings, or popping balloons. Additionally, some vendors, including the Montgomery County Department of Transportation, have been giving out free gear to passersby. Other vendors may have products available for purchase.
