The main event of the football season arrived on Friday when the Quince Orchard Cougars hosted the Northwest Jaguars in the Cougar Dome. The two teams have shared a fierce rivalry since the schools were built, and the energy around the game can be felt all week. Both programs are consistently near the top of the division, making this matchup even more important each year. This year, the Cougars defended their turf and came away with a 35-16 win over the Jaguars.

Both teams came out firing after scoring on their first drives, with QO scoring on a rushing touchdown from Jahiem Bond and Northwest relying on their passing game to find theirs. Jahiem Bond was a key point in this game, as QO has been searching for their new lead back since Jaiden Hebron went down earlier this season with a lower-body injury. The first half remained an offensive battle, with the Cougarsโ dominant run game fueled by their depth — Bond, Damian Hurtado, and Jeremiah Williams, have all been key contributors. Damian Hurtado scored twice in the first half to help Quince Orchard secure a 21-14 lead at halftime.
The Jaguars came out of halftime motivated, earning a safety to cut the score to 21-16. Their momentum was short-lived as a quick three-and-out stalled the drive. The Cougar defense held firm for the rest of the game. Despite the numerous injuries on both sides of the ball for the Cougars, they were able to roll to a 35-16 win after Bondโs second rushing touchdown of the day and a passing touchdown from Drakeford to Diego Rodriguez to ice the game (click the link to see the touchdown in HD).

For QO, this win highlights the domination of a season theyโve had so far. Northwest is now the seventh top-10 team in the 4A West Division that QO has beaten, with a combined score of 286-63. Quince Orchard is looking to win back-to-back state championships this season, and their fourth in the last five years. The Jaguars now turn their focus towards the playoffs after a disappointing season for their standards, with a record of four-and-four. Despite that, they still sit in 3rd in the division. The Cougars will wrap up their season on Halloween night at Gaithersburg. A win clinches the no. 1 seed for playoffs for the Cougars. Northwest will close out the season at home against Blair on Friday, Oct. 31st.
