The Quince Orchard Cougars and the Walter Johnson Wildcats faced off under the lights in Bethesda, MD this Thursday. Both teams were coming off of hot weeks, with Walter Johnson beating Gaithersburg 44-6, while Quince Orchard knocked off the former No. 2 team Paint Branch 35-0. The Cougars rolled to a dominant 56-6 victory over the Wildcats.

Both sides of the ball were stellar, but the offense stole the show in this game. Junior Jaiden Hebron had another huge game, with three touchdowns on the ground and a two-point conversion. Senior transfer QB Will Drakeford also had a big game, with a rushing touchdown and two touchdown passes to tight end Jake Bumgardner. Both the running backs and the wide receivers impressed. Four different players had a rushing touchdown, including sophomores Jeremiah Williams and Damien Hurtado. For the pass catchers, Bumgardner showed out at tight end while Isaiah Simms hauled in multiple catches for over 100 yards. This game was a show of dominance for the Cougars, with most starters being pulled by halftime to rest for the home opener against South County on Friday.

Quince Orchard’s dominant defense held the Wildcats to just six points. Amar’ee Wilson and Camden Taylor each had an interception, and the Cougar defense forced a fumble for yet another turnover. Junior cornerback Rico Jackson blocked a field goal and had multiple tackles for loss and pass breakups throughout the game. The defensive line was able to shut down talented quarterback Jake Forburger and stop Walter Johnson’s ground game. With the win, the Cougars proved they remain the team to beat in the 4A division.

While this game wasn’t the result they hoped for, the Wildcats still had some playmakers stand out in the game. Forburger was able to get momentum on offense using his legs numerous times throughout the game, and the rushing attack broke off several strong gains later in the game. Unfortunately, the team could not generate momentum on either side of the ball to stop QO from going on a 35-0 run in the first half.
