April 23, 2025 – By Chaz Offutt
Chaz Offutt, a viral breeder and entrepreneur based in Montgomery County, shares the heartfelt story behind his kennel business, Pawtners Kennel. His journey is a testament to resilience, a lifelong love for animals, and a commitment to bringing joy into people’s lives through his work with dogs.
A Love for Animals Passed Down
Chaz credits his grandmother for instilling in him a love for animals. As a child, he spent countless hours with her, watching programs like Animal Planet and learning to appreciate the beauty and complexity of nature. His fondness for dogs was sparked around the time Disney’s 101 Dalmatians was released. That Christmas, his dream came true when he received a brindle boxer named Cricket. Though Cricket’s high energy and strong personality proved challenging for a young Chaz, the experience ignited his desire to understand and properly care for dogs.
Early Experiences with Dogs
Over the next decade, Chaz honed his skills by walking, dog-sitting, and boarding friends’ and family’s pets. These experiences laid the foundation for his future endeavors. As an adult, he welcomed his first dog, Doja, a brindle Staffordshire terrier reminiscent of Cricket. A chance encounter with his neighbor’s American bully led to Doja’s first litter of puppies, born on December 6, 2021. Inspired by this milestone, Chaz officially established Pawtners Kennel in February 2022.
Expanding the Vision
Eager to expand his kennel, Chaz set his sights on French bulldogs, adopting a stud named Chaz—a fitting namesake—and a dam named African Journey. The latter held special significance, reminding Chaz of his evangelical trip to Africa during high school, where he worked to spread God’s love. This mission of bringing love into homes became central to his business vision.
Overcoming Challenges
Despite his passion, Chaz faced significant setbacks. After two unsuccessful breeding attempts with Chaz and African Journey, he lost his housing and moved into his late grandmother’s home. Feeling disheartened, he nearly gave up. But fate had other plans: Chaz and African Journey unexpectedly produced a litter of puppies. This moment reignited his determination.
Going Viral
Seizing an opportunity to promote his kennel, Chaz took two male puppies from the litter to Sneaker Con in Washington, DC, for its 15th anniversary. There, he collaborated with Heat Archive, a popular content creator known for buying and selling apparel. Together, they filmed a coin-flip video featuring one of the puppies. The video went viral, garnering widespread attention and catapulting Chaz into the spotlight.
Building a Legacy
Since that pivotal moment, Chaz has become a recognized figure in the dog breeding community, participating in dog shows and building a reputation for his expertise and dedication. His journey, marked by perseverance and passion, continues to inspire others.
A Mission Rooted in Love
For Chaz, Pawtners Kennel is more than a business; it’s a calling. By breeding healthy, loving companions, he aims to bring joy and God’s love into the lives of families everywhere. From his grandmother’s influence to his viral success, Chaz’s story is a powerful reminder of the impact of following one’s passion and purpose.
