In a move that has left many scratching their heads, the residents of North Potomac, Maryland have decided to take legal action against their neighboring town of North Bethesda in order to determine once and for all who the true “north” is in a state that clearly resides in the southern region of the United States.
Lawsuit filed
The lawsuit, which was filed last week in Montgomery County District Court, alleges that North Bethesda has been falsely identifying themselves as the “north” when in fact it is North Potomac that should hold this prestigious title. The complaint goes on to state that the residents of North Potomac have long been perplexed by the fact that North Bethesda seems to have no qualms about claiming to be the “north” despite the fact that the town is located south of the Upcounty line.
The lawsuit has sparked widespread ridicule and bemusement from both inside and outside Montgomery County, with many residents expressing disbelief that such a frivolous case could even make it to court. However, North Potomac’s mayor, who has been a vocal proponent of the lawsuit, insists that this is a matter of principle.
Town Leaders comment
“We are a town that prides ourselves on our geography,” said Mayor John Smith. “We have always considered ourselves to be the true north in Montgomery County. It’s time that we put this issue to rest once and for all.”
North Bethesda officials, for their part, have been equally bemused by the lawsuit. “We’re not sure what North Potomac’s problem is,” said North Bethesda Mayor Jane Doe. “We’ve never claimed to be the ‘true north.’ We’re just a town trying to live our best lives south of the Upcounty line”
Conclusion
Despite the widespread ridicule that has greeted the lawsuit, the residents of North Potomac appear to be undeterred. Many have taken to social media to express their support for the case, with some even suggesting that they would be willing to donate money to the cause.
Only time will tell what the outcome of this bizarre case will be. In the meantime, residents of both North Potomac and North Bethesda will just have to continue living their lives as best they can, unsure of who truly holds the title of “north” in a state that is clearly located in the southern region of the United States.
