Amanda Levin founded NeuroSpice Girls to create what she couldn’t find when her family first began navigating neurodivergence: a community built around friendship, humor, and real-time support for moms raising neurodivergent kids in the DMV area.
In the fourth episode of Moderately Mic’d, Levin shares the personal path that led to NeuroSpice Girls, including her son Asher’s diagnosis, her own adult ADHD and autism diagnosis, and the isolation many parents experience when their child’s needs don’t fit neatly into existing support structures.
The conversation covers a challenge familiar to many Montgomery County families: children who appear “fine” at school but struggle at home. Levin discusses high-masking kids, the emotional toll of constantly explaining diagnoses and behaviors to others, and the disconnect between how neurodivergent children present in structured environments versus the reality parents manage daily.
Levin also explores why moms of neurodivergent kids need more than informational resources. NeuroSpice Girls is designed around connection: meetups, social events, educational conversations, and opportunities for parents to get a break while building friendships with others who understand the experience without needing an explanation.
Drawing on her background in event planning, Levin shaped NeuroSpice Girls into a community that balances support with fun. The group addresses ADHD, autism, AuDHD, and PDA, creating safe spaces for parents to vent, laugh, and find solidarity.
As NeuroSpice Girls continues to grow across the DMV, the community reflects what Levin wished existed when her family was first starting out: a place where moms could show up as they are and find people who get it.
