A statement from the Wheaton Woods Elementary PTA is raising concerns about proposed changes to high school assignments under the Woodward boundary process, citing limited community engagement and unresolved transportation impacts.
The statement explains that Wheaton Woods families were not effectively reached during earlier phases of the boundary study, resulting in significantly lower participation compared to other clusters. As a result, many families were unaware of a recent recommendation that would shift their high school assignment from nearby Wheaton High School to Woodward High School, a more distant option that could mean longer commutes and new logistical challenges.
While acknowledging that some families see potential benefits in the proposed change, the statement emphasizes that many in the community have not had a meaningful opportunity to understand or weigh in on the decision. Concerns include transportation time, continuity for students currently feeding from Parkland Middle School, and the broader impact on family involvement.
The PTA is calling for additional time and outreach to ensure the community can fully engage before any final decisions are made.
