North Hills of Sligo Creek Civic Association (NHSCCA) has partnered with Seasonal Roots, an online farmers market that offers “dirt to doorstep” locally grown and sustainable produce and goods. As part of this partnership, North Hills of Sligo Creek residents and friends can now sign up as members for a 50% reduced fee of $25 per year. In addition, when you sign up, Seasonal Roots will donate $20 to the Charles Koiner Center for Urban Farming (CKC Farming), a non-profit that runs the Koiner Farm in downtown Silver Spring. The Koiner Farm is the first urban farm in Maryland to be permanently preserved under a conservation easement.
The mission of the Charles Koiner Center for Urban Farming is to preserve and manage urban farms that help inspire the next generation of conscious farmers and foodies. The NHSCCA-Seasonal Roots collaboration aims to promote awareness and support for local farms and farmers as part of North Hills of Sligo Creek’s environmental and healthy community initiative.
Eating ‘seasonally’ has many benefits, including better-tasting food with more nutrition from local farmers close to you, supporting the people in your community, and helping the environment. Seasonal Roots offers nearly 200 locally grown and produced items weekly, including fruits, vegetables, meats, fish, dairy products, baked and gluten-free items, vegan specialties, and more. Members can order what they want, skip or pause weekly deliveries, and cancel anytime. The online market opens on Friday at 2:00 PM and closes at midnight on Sunday, with deliveries taking place on Wednesday. Members choose from three box sizes that range from $29 to $45. Boxes are delivered to your doorstep and to a waiting cooler that members supply.
