Elections Board Says Voter Guides Sent to 11 Precincts Listed the Wrong Polling Place and Party

Some Montgomery County voters in the Clarksburg, Germantown and Poolesville areas received Voter Information Guides last week listing the wrong polling place and the wrong party affiliation, the county Board of Elections said Wednesday.

The error affects one printing batch covering 11 of the county’s 257 precincts. The board said the guides carried the correct name, address and sample ballot, and that the mistakes appear on the back of the booklet.

How to Check Whether You Are Affected

The board has not published a list of the 11 precincts. Any voter who wants to confirm their own information can do so directly:

• Text FIND to 77788 to confirm your polling place, or use the “Find Your Polling Place” link at 777vote.org.
• Text CHECK to 77788 for your full voting record, including party affiliation and polling place.
• Call 240-777-8500 or email elections@montgomerycountymd.gov.

Voters in the affected precincts do not need to request a replacement. The board said corrected guides are being printed and will be mailed by the beginning of next week, and that it will also email the notice to affected voters whose registration records include an email address.

What Went Wrong, and What Did Not

Mailing began September 16 to more than 700,000 registered voters, with batches continuing through this week. The board said it learned of the problem on September 22 and has asked its printing vendor to review the job.

The board was specific about the limits of the error. It said no voter registration records were affected, that the vendor prints the guides only and not mail-in ballots, and that the guides for the remaining 246 precincts are correct. The sample ballot inside the affected booklets was also correct.

That last point matters this year, because the sample ballot is where voters will first see Question 3, the congressional redistricting amendment, whose wording the Supreme Court of Maryland ordered rewritten in early September before ballots were finalized.

The board thanked the voters who reported the problem, saying it was able to correct it because they did.

What Happens Next

Replacement guides go out to the 11 precincts by early next week. The general election is November 3. Questions about the mailing can go to the Board of Elections at 240-777-8500 or elections@montgomerycountymd.gov.

BOARD OF ELECTIONS STATEMENT REGARDING MAILED OFFICIAL SAMPLE BALLOT & VOTING INFORMATION BOOKLET

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, September 23, 2026

On September 16, 2026, the Montgomery County Board of Elections began mailing Voter Information Guides to more than 700,000 registered voters. Batches will continue to be mailed for rest of this week. On September 22, 2026, the Board received information that several Voter Information Guides sent to voters in one batch affecting 11 precincts in the Clarksburg, Germantown, and Poolesville areas contained the correct voter's name, address, and sample ballot but also included incorrect polling place and party affiliation information. This printing error did not affect any voter registration records.

We requested our printing vendor (who prints only voter information guides and not the actual mail-in ballots) to conduct a review. The vendor is printing replacement Voter Information Guides for voters in the 11 affected precincts who may have received booklets with an inaccurate polling place and/or party affiliation printed on the back.

Additionally, an electronic version of this press release will be emailed to all voters in those 11 precincts for whom we have an email address within their voter registration record.

The vendor has reassured the Board that the Voter Information Guides for voters in the remaining 246 precincts are correct. New Voter Information Guides will be mailed to voters in the 11 affected precincts by the beginning of next week.
