MCPS summer employees report pay delays and payroll system failures
July 11, 2025 5:30pm – By Tomas Monticelli
On July 10, 2025, Moderately MOCO received several reports from trusted sources that MCPS summer staff members had not been paid as expected for work completed between June 28 and July 11, sparking confusion about both the delay and its cause.
Some reports indicated that glitches in the new payroll system had prevented workers from logging their hours, with the system displaying the message: โSummer assignments are still being loaded into the system.โ This prompted concerns that payments could be delayed even further. โIโm afraid Iโll be without a paycheck for the month if the system does not allow me to report my hours,โ one employee said.

Moderately MOCO made the following post on X and other social medias looking for more information and contacted MCPS for comment on the matter.
MCPS Responds
MCPS responded to our request for comment with a clarification that, due to the Fourth of July holiday, the payroll collection period had been extended to Tuesday, July 15, but that all workers would still be paid on regular system pay dates.
This was MCPSโ official response:
โAll employees will receive pay on system pay dates as expected. Attached is a message that went out todayโ for some context.

Continued Complaints
Since that response, Moderately MOCO has continued to receive complaints from staff members working outside the June 28 to July 11 payment timeline. Multiple sources reported that employees who began work on July 7 may not receive payment until August 8, more than four weeks after starting. One worker noted that unions have begun to get involved, but added, โItโs not looking good for us employees right now.โ
Could issues predate summer school?
Other MCPS employees say the issue predates the summer entirely. One veteran teacher reported being paid for only 55 out of 80 hours for teaching an online course earlier this year and said theyโve been trying to resolve the issue since May.
Awaiting MCPS Response to follow up
MCPS has not yet provided a comment regarding the reported August 8 pay date or broader concerns about unpaid hours outside the initial timeline after being asked follow up questions the morning of July 11.
Security Pay Reportedly Still Wrong end of Day Friday
As of 5:30pm on Friday, sources indicate that security pay is still wrong and they canโt enter their time for this week. The letter says staff have until 10pm Monday to submit.
We will continue to update this article as more information comes in or if MCPS responds to further questions
