Montgomery County’s community theater scene has been thriving for decades, and it deserves more attention.
Did you know there are 15 volunteer theaters in down-county Montgomery County? Rockville Little Theatre, Bethesda Little Theatre, Kentland Community Players, Silver Spring Stage, and Damascus Theatre are just a few of the many options available to local audiences.
From classic plays, musicals, British comedies to contemporary dramas and youth productions, local theaters offer high-quality performances at affordable prices – often under $28 a ticket, with discounts for students and seniors. These productions are powered by a passionate community that welcomes newcomers and cherish seasoned actors and production teams who generously share their time and expertise.
Until now, you had to know where to look, or search for each theater individually, to find shows near you. I created a solution: Community Theater in MoCo, a website that brings all 15 local theaters together in one place.
The site features:
• a current show calendar
• direct ticket links
• reviews
• auditions and volunteer opportunities
• conversations with members of the theater community
• recognition of awards earned by local productions
Curious about getting involved in the performing arts but not sure how to start? Local theater groups are always looking for volunteers, making it easier than you think to step in: on stage, backstage, or in the audience.
Enter the stage. It’s worth it.
What’s the best local production you’ve seen lately?
