Significantly Below Normal Temperatures Expected Across the Eastern U.S. with Limited Snow Chances Early On

MoCoClosures presents our Early December Temperature Outlook for the 2024-25 winter season. As we enter December, Arctic air from Siberia is set to dominate much of the eastern United States, bringing significantly below normal temperatures. While the first week of December is expected to be cold and largely dry, the pattern may shift later in the month, potentially increasing the chance of snowstorms. Here’s what you can expect.
Arctic Air Arrives
A storm on November 28th will usher in an Arctic airmass originating from Siberia, driven eastward by a ridge over western North America.
A Cold and Dry Start to December
The first week of December will feature frigid conditions with well below-normal temperatures across the eastern US. However, moisture will be limited, keeping most areas cold and dry. Light snow events from weak clippers or Arctic fronts (C-2/1-3”) cannot be ruled out.
Second Week: Snow Event Potential
As the trough relaxes slightly, conditions improve for storms to amplify, supported by a stronger western ridge. While this pattern brings the potential for snow events in the mid-Atlantic and East Coast, it remains a very cold, predominantly dry setup—not a wet one.
