Questions & Responses (All Candidates)
1 – What lessons learned do you have since the start of the pandemic?
The county needs to do a better job of communicating and listening to constituents.
2 – If you could go back and do one thing differently from what was done in the last two years in Montgomery County what would you change?
I would change the procedure for the determination of school and business closures.
3 – What do you think are the 3 biggest and most pressing issues facing our county in the next 4 years? Why?
1. Education
2. Public Safety
3. Environment
These are the pressing issues because the county needs to ensure that our schools are all great, the public is safe, and environmental equity is present, regardless of a resident’s zip code.
4 – What specifically do you plan to do in the 3 most pressing areas from Question 3?
1. Education
I will bring greater equity to our schools and reduce overcrowding so we can ensure that our children and teachers are fully supported in achieving educational greatness.
2. Public Safety
I will ensure that we implement and improve our public safety services through training, education, communication, proper planning, and management of the response to public safety issues affecting Montgomery County.
3. Environment
I will support a Green New Deal that protects our environment, increases clean energy installation across the county, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and ensures everyone has access to clean energy.
5 – Would you consider supporting changes to electoral process such as open primaries or non-partisan elections in Montgomery County to allow 155,000+ registered Unaffiliated/Independents in Montgomery County to vote locally when it counts?
Yes, I am open to supporting changes to the electoral process that allows more people a voice.
Questions & Responses (County Council)
1 – What is your plan to attract and KEEP businesses in Montgomery County? How can we get more businesses across the county and especially where its lacking in the Up County and East County and compete with Northern Virginia?
I will increase investment in and protection of small and minority-owned businesses, expand vocational training, and strengthen programs like the Local Small Business Reserve, so we are capitalizing on our strengths.
2 – How will you hold developers accountable for past, present, and future infrastructure commitments (schools, transit, roads, etc.)?
I will implement policies that make developers pay their past and current fair share to the county, and hold them accountable for the impact of their projects on the community.
3 – What do you plan to do about the increase in incidents of carjackings and homicides in the county and decline of applicants and morale in the police force?
I will implement policies that will support our communities and officers in a fair and just way, and improve training and community engagement.
4 – What do you see as your biggest advantage or positive that you bring to the table over your competitors?
The biggest advantage that I bring to the table is my background in government, business, and community involvement. Whether it’s business negotiations or legislation, I have the experience and
relationships needed to move the county forward. I have served as a State House Chief of Staff and founded a small business which I have grown and successfully managed for the past 15 years. As Chief of Staff, I managed a diverse legislative portfolio while specializing in juvenile and family law. The skills that I developed as a small business owner – especially building long-term relationships with individuals that would become my clients and individuals that would provide services needed to operate my business – are similar to those needed to persuade colleagues to join me in enacting legislation that is critical to the long-term prosperity of Montgomery County.
