Why Are You Running For Office?
I am both professionally and personally invested in this role. I am a lifelong educator with experience teaching and counseling in elementary all the way through graduate school. MCPS is one of the best public school systems in our nation, but there needs to be more follow through and transparency with the budget and promises made. I plan to enhance the good system we already have by creating more access about what’s happening in the schools to families and the community.
What Is The Biggest Issue Facing Voters In This Race?
Right now the biggest issue facing voters is the pending closure of Wootton High School. School closures have a financial, social, emotional, and academic impact. There needs to be more transparency about the school closure and school split, costs, risks, and impact to marginalized students. Parents have a right to be fully informed where their tax dollars are going and where their students are going.
What Experience Best Prepares You For This Role?
I have 17 years experience as a teacher, a school counselor, and now a professor. I have a Doctorate in Education that was focused on the K12 system. I not only understand curriculum, but I understand and know how to follow through on using resources that are cost effective. I’m ready to serve as an educator, a parent, and a community member that benefits families, teachers, and leadership in Montgomery County.
What Would You Like Voters To Know About You Personally?
I am a mom of 3 kids in Montgomery County Schools ages 10, 5 and 3. We moved here from Texas to Maryland specifically for the wonderful schools in MCPS and the diversity of people, thought, and living. I love drinking coffee, playing with my kids and reading books in my spare time!
