Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich Defies His Own Order And National Park Service Regulations, Does Not Wear Mask In Close Quarters

County Executive Marc Elrich posted a few images on Twitter of his attendance of an event kicking off National Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month on Saturday, March 3, 2021.

Mask-less Marc

Normally, this is where the story would stop. However, Marc Elrich is not wearing a mask and is defying his own executive order in the image below. There is no social distancing going on and those are not members of his household.

Marc Elrich can be seen front middle with no mask and holding a proclamation

As seen in the tweet below, this was the same location/same people as the Glen Echo reopening event. And Glen Echo Park also happens to be part of the National Park Service.

Montgomery County Regulations

The current order states face coverings must be worn for social gatherings and even when playing some sports outside. There is no exception that would apply here and the County Executive’s mask is no where in sight.

National Park Service Masking Requirements

Here you can see that he was also in defiance of the National Park Service Covid Mask Requirements which state:

Face masks are now required in all NPS buildings and facilities. Masks are also required on NPS-managed lands when physical distancing cannot be maintained, including narrow or busy trails, overlooks and historic homes. Additional public health measures are in place across the service, from capacity limits to one-way trails, or even temporary closures in response to local conditions.

While recent CDC guidelines have relaxed some masking requirements (especially outdoors and especially for the vaccinated), Montgomery County has declined to update their guidance:

This makes it all the more disrespectful for the County Executive to disdain to follow his own guidance (as well as the federal rules of the NPS) and to be so brazen as to flaunt it on social media.
