STATEMENT: ELLIS ADMINISTRATION WILL FIGHT FOR THE MARYLAND WE DESERVE

On October 21, 2026, Andry Ellis, the Maryland Green Party candidate for governor, issued the following statement:

“Today, I stood with the courageous organizers of the Bethesda Africa Cemetery Coalition, or BACC, as they brought a petition to Montgomery County Permitting Office demanding an intervention by the county at the site of the Moses African Cemetery.

“I have spent the last four years travelling the state and talking to people, what I have learned is that people are angry at the system. They’re angry that the system rewards politicians who are in the pockets of their wealthy donors, and they’ are angry that big corporations and powerful lobbyists can buy and sell our elected officials. They’re angry that their so-called leaders are going out of their way to ignore their constituents to keep the donors, the developers, and the big corporations’ checks coming in.

“But more than anger, there’s something that gives me hope, too: across the state people are fighting against overwhelming odds; they are building new movements in churches, and in senior centers, and in libraries And soon, that fight will continue in the voting booth. That’s why I wanted to stand in solidarity with BACC on the eve of Early Voting in Maryland: I wanted to stand in community with fighters.

“All over Maryland, people are fighting to stop big tech and big surveillance from poisoning their communities and their families with their data centers. They’re fighting to stop the desecration of the land and history. Because we deserve to live in a state where exploitation, desecration, and corruption are a thing of the past. As Governor, I will continue to fight alongside the working people of Maryland to build the state, country, and world we deserve.”
