Today, the Montgomery County Office of the Inspector General found that the county’s Public Information Office (PIO) needs to do more to satisfy policy obligations stating the following:
“Rockville, Maryland – Montgomery County Maryland Inspector General Megan Davey Limarzi announced today the release of a new Office of the Inspector General (OIG) report, Office of Public Information,Publication # OIG-25-02, detailing the results of an OIG review of the Montgomery County Office of Public Information (PIO). The review was performedpursuant to the OIG’s mandate to conduct reviews of the internal accounting processes and controls used by each department and principal office in the county’s Executive Branch.
After conducting a financial risk assessment, the OIG determined the risk related to internal accounting processes and controls to be low, and therefore focused the review on PIO’s efforts to meet its obligations under the county’s social media policy and distribute official county information. The reviewfound that the PIO does not maintain an up-to-date list of social media sites used by county departments, nor has it developed standards for naming and visual consistency for county affiliated social media sites as required by county policy.
The OIG’s findings were reported to the County’s Chief Administrative Officer who concurred with the findings and agreed that PIO will take actions to implement the OIG’s recommendations for improvement.”
