Police: Wootton High School Not Connected to Rockville Moped Assault

A violent assault involving a large group of individuals on mopeds near Wootton Parkway was not connected to Wootton High School and did not involve students from the school, according to an updated statement released by the Rockville City Police Department.

What Happened Near Wootton High School?

Police said officers responded around 11:52 a.m. on May 14 to the area of Wootton Parkway and Rockshire Place for a reported assault in progress. Officers located a juvenile male suffering from serious injuries, and the victim was transported to a local hospital where police say he is currently recovering.

Suspects and Victim Believed to be from Outside Montgomery County

Witnesses told investigators that a group of approximately 20 males on mopeds assaulted the victim with a blunt object before fleeing the area. Investigators now believe the suspects and victim are from outside of Montgomery County.

Police Say Wootton High School Was Not Connected and No Students Involved

Although the assault occurred near Wootton High School, police stated there is โ€œno evidence that the assault stemmed from anything related to the school, and no students were involved in the incident.โ€

Officer Assigned to Wootton Responded Immediately

Police also addressed questions surrounding the law enforcement response at the school. According to the department, a Rockville City Police officer was already assigned to Wootton High School at the time of the incident and responded immediately because of the close proximity to the assault. That officer was first on the scene.

โ€œWe want to reassure the community that there was no threat to students or staff at the school,โ€ the department stated.
