August 26, 2024
As most of our followers are probably aware, today marks the first day of the 2024-2025 school year for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS).
Get and Stay in the Loop
This article will contain all the links you need to start the year with knowledge in hand and we’ll continue to keep you in the loop throughout the school year so be sure to signup for our email updates or contact us with specific issues.
The school year represents a fresh start with a new leader at the top and several new school policies along with a lot of new faces leading schools.
Bus Transportation Information
MCPS sent out detailed correspondence about possible bus delays as well as detailed information about an MCPS Transportation Hotline.
This article also contains lots of safety tips for families as it relates to transportation.
Expect Increased Traffic and Drive Safely Around Schools and Busses
The county has made numerous posts and press releases related to making the general public aware of the start of the new school year and to drive safely around buses, schools and children and about increased enforcement of laws related to schools.
The cost of violating a bus stop sign is $250 and it’s not worth endangering kids.
Submit your First Day Photos
Per MCPS, you can submit your first day photos to them, tagging them on social media or using hashtags “#MCPSFirstDay or #MCPSForward”. We’ll also have a post you can post your first day photos under if you’d like.
Big Things Ahead for MCPS
We have a couple major things we’ll be focusing on for the next few months.
1st is the BOE election (we’re co-sponsoring a forum with several other groups this time around – date to be announced soon).
2nd is the upcoming MCPS boundary studies which will be including almost every Middle and High School in the county. We have a follow up coming soon to the piece where we started to look at how planning data can help predict boundary changes.
And of course, we’ll continue to look at different issues as they pop up as well as continue our investigations into safety and hate in schools.
