As of 11:50pm on Wednesday night, the Montgomery County EMS Jurisdictional system has issued a Blue alert.
This means that the county hospital systems are temporarily taxed beyond their limits.
Additionally, several individual local hospitals were in Red or Yellow alert. We track these, a few red of yellows are normal in covid times but this many is way beyond anything we have seen recently.
The list of hospitals with a red alert includes:
Doctors Community Hospital, Holy Cross Germantown, Holy Cross Hospital, Montgomery Medical Center, Prince George’s Medical Center, White Oak Medical Center, and Sibley Memorial Hospital.
Red Alert means no ECG monitored beds available.
There was also a large list of hospitals that are in yellow alert. Yellow alert means the emergency department temporarily request to receive absolutely no patients in need of emergency medical care.
MedStar Washington Hospital Center initiated a trauma bypass which means the hospitals ability to function as a trauma center has been exceeded.
It is unclear at this time if these alerts are related to Covid or the “protests” downtown.
As of 9:55AM on Thursday Jan 7, Moco is still in Blue alert as a whole. All but one red alert from last night is still active but half of the yellow alerts have been removed. The trauma bypass is no longer applied either.
