Takoma Park Map of Surveillance, Traffic and Stop Sign Cameras

Takoma Park began installing stop-sign cameras operated by Obvio as part of a four-year pilot program approved by the City Council. The first installations went into service in December 2025 and January 2026. At the initial locations, drivers received warnings beginning December 8, 2025, and citations began January 8, 2026, after a 30-day warning period. The city says AI identifies possible stop-sign violations, but Takoma Park Police staff review and approve citations before they are mailed.

This map brings together publicly documented camera directions and sites in and near Takoma Park. It includes stop-sign and red-light enforcement cameras, police surveillance trailers, public traffic cameras, former city speed-camera locations, and two Montgomery County speed-camera sites. The boundary line helps distinguish city locations from nearby county locations.

The program changed again in September 2026. Ten newly listed directions, including locations at Ethan Allen and Jackson, Carroll and Lincoln, Philadelphia and Holly, and Maple Avenue’s intersections with Sherman, Ritchie, and Grant, began issuing warnings on August 17 and citations on September 16. On that same date, the city took ten older directions out of service. That is why this map separates 18 active stop-sign directions from 10 labeled Present but inactive. The inactive markers preserve a record of where enforcement operated; their descriptions make clear that those directions are no longer issuing citations.

What the icons mean

• Red stop sign with a blue eye: An active city stop-sign enforcement direction. The city says AI identifies possible violations and police review citations before they are issued.
• Gray crossed-out eye in the inactive stop-sign layer: A direction labeled Present but inactive. Equipment may still be at the location, but that direction is not issuing citations.
• Red traffic signal
• Police trailer: One of five city-listed surveillance trailer deployments. Trailers can move, so these markers show published placements rather than permanent sites.
• Green CCTV camera: A public traffic-management camera or feed. The two green markers are for traffic observation, not citation enforcement.
• Gray crossed-out eye in the former speed-camera layer: A historical city speed-camera location. The city reported that its speed cameras had been decommissioned and removed by July 1, 2025. The layer title and marker description distinguish these removed sites from the inactive stop-sign cameras.
• Blue camera labeled COUNTY: A Montgomery County speed-camera site listed in county records. One mapped point is within the city boundary and the other is nearby, outside it. The listing does not independently confirm whether equipment is currently deployed at either point.
